Fortnite Save the World goes free-to-play on April 16, 2026. Epic is pausing new purchases ahead of the relaunch and current players will receive in-game thank-you rewards before the launch date. Pre-registration is live now and contributes toward community unlocks. (gamespot.com)
The free relaunch will be available on PC, PlayStation 4 and 5, Xbox One and Series X|S, and the Nintendo Switch 2. Mobile devices and the original Switch 1 will not support the mode. If you want to play on console, check space and updates ahead of April 16. (gamespot.com)
Players can pre-register at the Save the World preregistration page to help unlock community rewards (hero cosmetics and items). Existing Save the World owners will receive special thank-you packs, while new players who preregister will earn milestone cosmetics and a hero once goals are met.

Fortnite Save the World began life as Fortnite's original PvE campaign long before Battle Royale dominated the brand. Epic originally planned Save the World to become free but kept it paid after early access; the April relaunch reverses that decision nearly six years later. Expect an influx of players and updated onboarding for newcomers. (gamespot.com)
Fortnite Save the World will be free soon—will you jump back in or try it for the first time?
